In conjunction with its official sponsorship of the WUSA, Gillette for Women Venus will select one fan and one player to be the Venus Ultimate Soccer Goddesses at WUSA weekend home games. In addition, on behalf of all of the Soccer Goddesses, the Gillette Women’s Cancer Charitable Gift Fund will present a cumulative $40,000 donation conclusion of the 2002 WUSA season.

Players including Brandi Chastain (San Jose), Heather Mitts (Philadelphia), Kate Sobrero (Boston) and Charmaine Hooper (Atlanta) have recently been crowned Soccer Goddesses in their respective markets, much to the delight of their young counterparts. The “Ultimate Soccer Goddess” and “Player Goddess of the Game” are honored on-field during half-time ceremonies. Soccer fanatics who want to show their spirit may enter a drawing at the Venus Ultimate Soccer Goddess Station prior to each weekend home match throughout the 2002 regular season for the chance to be crowned the game’s “Ultimate Soccer Goddess” alongside a WUSA star.

Local Youth Learn From Boston Soccer Goddesses

BOSTON (Tuesday, July 30, 2002) - More than 100 kids from the City of Boston Parks Department summer programs braved the summer heat to get soccer tips and skills instruction from Kate Sobrero and Jena Kluegel of the Boston Breakers.  The free youth soccer clinic, held on Boston Common, was sponsored by Gillette for Women Venus who wants to help soccer fans of all ages bring out their "inner Soccer Goddess."

Participants came from local community centers including Hill House, Black Stone and Chinatown as well as the Boston Neighborhood Soccer League.  Sobrero and Kluegel taught the kids about dribbling and passing and also posed for pictures and signed autographs at the Ultimate Soccer Goddess Station.
