WUSA 2001 Season: Team Captain, played every minute of every game: 1,890 minutes in 21 games. Breakers third leading scorer with 16 points, 3 goals and 10 assists. Tied for the league lead in assists with 10. Led the league in fouls suffered with 48. Scored her first goal in the WUSA season on a penalty kick in a 1-1 game against the Bay Area CyberRays on April 29. Won the team MVP award. Was named to the WUSA Global 11 First Team.
National Team: Lilly is the all-time leader in international appearances for the U.S. Women's National Team with over 200 caps, the first player in soccer history, men or women, to reach that milestone. Third all-time in goals scored with 81. Led National Team in 1999 with 20 goals.. Lilly is a World Cup Champion (1999, 1991), Goodwill Games Gold Medalist (1998) and Olympic Games Gold Medalist (1996). Had a crucial role in the 1999 World Cup final game against China as she cleared a Chinese shot off the goal line with her head in sudden death overtime and nailed the crucial third penalty kick in which the U.S. won 5-4. Was named MVP of the U.S. Women's Cup in 1999 as well as an All-Tournament selection in '95, '96 and '97.
College: Helped lead the Tar Heels to four NCAA titles from 1989-1992. Named to Soccer America's College Team of the Decade for the 1990's. Winner of the 1991 Hermann Trophy and a finalist in 1992. Winner of the 1991 Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year Award. As a senior, she was UNC's Athlete of the Year...Four-time First-Team NSCAA All-American, she was also a four-time First-Team All-ACC and All-South selection (1989-1992). Had her UNC jersey number 15 retired in 1994. Completed her collegiate career with 78 goals and 41 assists. In 1991, she was a finalist for the Broderick Award as the outstanding female athlete in all of college sports, and was the second-leading scorer in the nation behind teammate Mia Hamm with 15 goals and four assists.
